PRESS RELEASERABBI ZEV KAHN AND THE JEWISH EDUCATION TEAM (JET) ANNOUNCE THE ARRIVAL OF RABBI SHALOM GARFINKEL CHICAGO, Illinois - Rabbi Zev Kahn founded JET in the fall of 2005, and since then JET has had a major impact on Jewish college students in the Chicago metropolitan area. Due to overwhelming interest in JET's educational programming, Rabbi Kahn and the Director of the Board of JET, Pamela Rose of Rose and Associates have hired Rabbi and Mrs. Shalom and Suri Garfinkel to join the JET staff. The Garfinkel's arrival in Chicago comes after a three-year career of working on the UCLA campus for one of the premier outreach organizations in the country. The Garfinkels will be building student relationships at the University of Chicago, DePaul and UIC as well as expanding JET's presence to campuses outside of Chicago, including University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northern Illinois University in De Kalb. Rabbi Garfinkel is looking forward to the opportunity to inspire and to empower college students. Rabbi Kahn and Ms. Rose's vision for JET is, "... to provide every Jewish student in Chicago with the resources needed to make educated choices about their life and their contribution to the Jewish people. Rabbi and Mrs. Garfinkel joining JET is a significant step towards realizing this vision. They bring to Chicago their experience and fresh ideas to educate hundreds more students a year." JET has had a profound impact on Jewish students the past two years. The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship, JET's flagship program, enlightens students about their heritage and creates future leaders; over 100 students have participated in the multifaceted ten-week program. And, over 400 students have attended special learning programs and participated in other higher-level educational programming through JET. Ms. Rose explains, "I have been hands-on with the students from the beginning and the results are measurable. I see the positive effect on hundreds of students, which will impact the entire Chicagoland Jewish community. I strongly believe in the importance of JET's work and feel fortunate to work with the Kahns, and now the Garfinkels." JET also runs JETNet lunches for high-level business executives in the city, lunch networking classes for young professionals, Shabbat programming throughout the year, and special guest lecturers for the broader community.
